Stringing and unstringing your bow is a basic skill. You never want to keep your bow strung when not in use because the constant tension can “tork” or twist the limbs of your bow. That said, there are many ways to put the string in the notches of your bow, but there is only ONE SAFE way for you and your bow. Use a Bow Stringer. Bow Stringers can run from about $14.00 to $50.00, but we prefer using the Bear Archery Recurve-Bow Stringer, which is at the upper end. You want a stringer that is tough, that doesn’t mar your bow, preferably one made nylon and leather. Why use a stringer? If you try other methods, for example using your leg, you risk twisting the limbs of your bow, and worse, having the bow get away from you and whacking your body. Our tip for today is to buy a bow stringer when you purchase your bow, thus saving your bow AND body for shooting hundreds of arrows!
